Kanika Ward is a native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Her proud and supportive parents are Andrew and Brenda Ward. Kanika is owner of Kosmik Kare Day Spa, a business first conceived in 1998, when Kanika Ward began creating hair and skin care products out of her kitchen. Through  faith and stick-to–tiveness Kosmik Kare was born. At first this idea was just a way to tap in to the power of self and what Kanika could fabricate for personal use only. Then friends and family began to make requests and she began to sell these products. NatuRaw was the name chosen for these salves, pomades and oils. The name is pretty self explanatory. All ingredients came from the earth. Aromatherapy and herbology were the sources of some of the unique recipes.

Kanika, with a degree in mathematics from Tuskegee University in Alabama, decided a couple years later to seek more knowledge about what seemed an innate gift to consult others in their everyday living. She was much an influence on those close to her in healthy eating choices and holistic skin and body products. This is when Kanika decided to look at her gift from a business perspective. In fall of 2000, she began attending UW-Milwaukee's Master's of Business Administration program. During this two year plan to become an MBA, the main focus was to learn how to start up Kosmik Kare Day Spa.

There was a one year search for start-up capital and renovation of a family-owned beauty salon on the corner of 7th and Capitol Drive. While attending graduate school, Kanika began to write a business plan. She sought out many resources for small business funding. Grants, loans, and personal financing were achieved after some time. This helped the renovation project go underway in the spring of 2002. By spring 2003, renovation was complete and Kosmik Kare Day Spa opened its doors in July.
